Frequently Asked Questions
Which tax regime is better for traders — Old or New?▼
It depends on your deductions. If you claim 80C (₹1.5L), 80D, NPS, and home loan interest totaling over ₹3-4 lakh, Old Regime may save more. Otherwise, New Regime's lower slab rates (0% up to ₹4L, 5% up to ₹8L) are usually better. Use the calculator to compare both.
How is F&O income taxed in India?▼
F&O income is treated as non-speculative business income and taxed at your regular slab rate. You must file ITR-3. If F&O turnover exceeds ₹10 crore, a tax audit under Section 44AB is mandatory. Losses can be carried forward for 8 years.
What is the LTCG tax on stocks in FY 2025-26?▼
Long-term capital gains (equity held > 12 months) above ₹1.25 lakh are taxed at 12.5% without indexation benefit (post Budget 2024). The first ₹1.25 lakh LTCG per year is exempt.
Is STCG the same in Old and New regime?▼
Yes. STCG on listed equity is taxed at a flat 20% regardless of which regime you choose. It is computed separately from slab-based income.
What is Section 44ADA for freelancers?▼
Section 44ADA allows professionals (doctors, lawyers, consultants, etc.) with gross receipts up to ₹75 lakh to declare 50% of gross receipts as taxable income — no need to maintain books or get audited. Only applies if total receipts are under ₹75 lakh.
